本场主裁蒙特罗与皇马有过一些“恩怨”，他此前被曝出在担任皇马比赛VAR裁判时庆祝皇马丢球。
在皇马对阵埃瓦尔的一场比赛中，埃瓦尔对皇马的一次进球被判罚越位，而在VAR回放后确认进球有效，对此当值VAR裁判穆努埃拉-蒙特罗激动地与身边的助手击掌相庆。
据《阿斯报》报道，蒙特罗的这一举动引起了皇马方面的极大不满，这名裁判也多次遭到皇马的抗议。
